Heart of Niagara Animal Rescue will be on hand Saturday at Pet Supplies Plus, 2952 Niagara Falls Blvd., Amherst (near Menne Nursery). Adoptable dogs including Simon and Jazzy will visit from 11 a.m. until 2 p.m. Meet the dogs and get information on them and all of HON's adoptable animals at the event.

Heart of Niagara is in need of dog food donations (Purina One and Science Diet). In addition, HON seeks donations of baskets, prize items and gift certificates for its basket auction at the upcoming fundraiser, "A Taste of The Niagara Region," which will take place Saturday, Jan. 31, at the Conference & Event Center Niagara Falls.

On Saturday, the public can purchase "Taste" tickets, priced at $20 each, which provide ticketholders an opportunity to sample food donated from more than 30 participating restaurants, caterers and area bakeries.

Fundraising monies will enable the rescue to continue caring for animals and arrange for their adoption, as well as to save for a building so even more animals can be saved.

Heart of Niagara Animal Rescue is a not-for-profit companion animal rescue organization based in Niagara County. Its mission is to protect the health and welfare of abandoned, unwanted and homeless animals. To date, volunteers have adopted out more than 265 animals.

HON operates solely on donations and the generosity and support of the public. Monthly volunteer meetings take place from 6:30-8 p.m. the second Wednesday of each month at First Presbyterian Church, 505 Cayuga St., Lewiston. New volunteers are welcome.
