Heart of Niagara Animal Rescue will be present Saturday at Grandpaws Pet Emporium, 402 Center St. (corner of North Fourth Street), Lewiston. Adoptable dogs Jazzy, Rita, Simon and Snoopy will be there from 11 a.m. until 2 p.m.

Photos and information on these and all their animals are available on the HON website, www.heartofniagara.org. The public is invited to come and meet these animals and to find out more about the adoption process, fostering, animal care and upcoming HON meetings and events.

The rescue requests donations of baskets, prize items and gift certificates for its basket auction at the upcoming fundraiser, "A Taste of The Niagara Region," which will take place Saturday, Jan. 31, at the Conference & Event Center Niagara Falls.

The public can drop off any donations at Grandpaws during the adoption event and also purchase "Taste" tickets priced at $20 each. Each ticket includes the opportunity to sample food, appetizer and dessert samples donated from more than 30 participating restaurants, caterers and bakeries. Proceeds will help the organization continue caring for animals and arrange for their adoption, as well as to save for a building so that more animals can be saved.

Heart of Niagara Animal Rescue is a not-for-profit companion animal rescue organization based in Niagara County. Its mission is to protect the health and welfare of abandoned, unwanted and homeless animals. To date, volunteers have adopted out more than 265 animals. They operate solely on donations and the generosity and support of the public.

Monthly volunteer meetings take place from 6:30-8 p.m. the second Wednesday of each month at First Presbyterian Church, 505 Cayuga St., Lewiston. The next meeting is Jan. 14; new volunteers are always welcome.
