Grand Island schools are the beneficiaries of funds, thanks to the Leslie R. Morris Memorial Philanthropic Fund.

Established in 2010 by Dr. Sharon Cramer in memory of her late husband, Leslie R. Morris, the fund provides $500 to one school library each year. Morris, a lifelong reader, librarian and longtime Grand Island resident, had a special interest in encouraging boys to "find themselves in books."

Books are selected based on subjects that might be of special interest to boys. For Kaegebein and Huth Road libraries in 2013-14 and 2014-15, books included those on animal tracks, animal life cycles, NFL quarterbacks, animal adaptations, and history and science behind world famous structures.

The collaboration between Cramer and the district's Karen Karmazin (now retired), begun in 2010 and funded the high school library in its first year. Connor Middle School was the recipient in 2011-12, and Sidway, in the 2012-13 school year.
