In the spirit of the holiday season, Niagara Hospice House staff adopted three families from Community Missions this December. The staff wanted to share their good fortune with those less fortunate.

Niagara Hospice House Clinical Director Janet Ligammari, RN, said, "The holiday season is about being thankful and sharing with others. Our staff asked to work as a group to provide for some less-fortunate families, and we all agreed it was a great idea."

Staff, and some family members, shopped for the children and adults of each family and provided gifts, nonperishable food, and gift certificates for groceries. Their efforts made this year's holiday season brighter for these families, making it a very worthwhile project for the staff involved.

Niagara Hospice House is Niagara County's only residential hospice house and in-patient facility, providing hospice services to patients and their families in need of these unique services. Ten suites in the acute care unit at Niagara Hospice House provide 24/7 medical monitoring, while pain and symptoms are brought under control, alleviating the need for emergency room visits. This often results in a quicker return to home.

The residential wing of Niagara Hospice House holds 10 suites specifically designed for patients who need residential hospice care. Each suite is designed with patient and family in mind, with a sitting area and easy-chair sleeper. Each family also has access to gathering rooms, fireplaces, a chapel and the Niagara Hospice memorial gardens.
