Holiday fun is already underway at the Power Vista, the New York Power Authority's admission-free visitors center at the Niagara Power Project.

Now through Jan. 2, visit NYPA's annual Festival of Trees. An official stop along the Holiday Lights of Niagara Tour, the festival features a dazzling display of artificial evergreens, adorned with energy-efficient lights and decorated for the season by local nonprofit organizations.

On Saturday, Dec. 6, from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m., enjoy NYPA's annual Deck the Halls event where kids can share their lists and have their photograph taken with Santa till 2 p.m. In the spirit of the season, visitors are encouraged to bring nonperishable food items for donation to local food banks.

The event will feature craft activities with the New York State Office of Parks, Recreation and Historic Preservation, entertainment from the Niagara Falls High School theatre interns, and food sold by Boy Scout Troop 855 in Lewiston. Visitors can gather energy-saving tips and ideas for celebrating the season sustainably.

The New York Masons safety ID program will offer visitors of all ages a personalized safety CD with digital photograph, fingerprints and other vital statistics - an invaluable aid to law enforcement should a loved one ever become lost.

State Parks' Niagara Scenic Trolley will provide free rides between the Power Vista and the Niagara Gorge Discovery Center.

On Dec. 6 and throughout the year, visitors can enjoy NYPA's hands-on, interactive exhibits on electricity, energy-efficiency, the operation of the Niagara Power Project, and observation deck views 350 feet above the Niagara River Gorge.

The Power Vista is located at 5777 Lewiston Road, Lewiston. Admission and parking are always free. For more information, call 716-286-6661 or email [email protected].
