The Girl Scouts of Troop 70311 in Pendleton donated more than 30 handmade toys for the rescue cats and kittens Tuesday at Pets Alive, 7007 Campbell Blvd.

The Troop is volunteering with Pets Alive through the 2014-15 year as part of its Bronze Award project. The Bronze Award is the highest honor a Girl Scout Junior can achieve. It requires girls to find a need in their community, develop a plan to serve that need and to then put that plan in motion.

The "kick-sticks" donated were sewn, stitched and stuffed by the Girl Scouts after learning Pets Alive was in need of toys for its cats and kittens. The toy project is one of several the Girl Scouts will complete for Pets Alive. The troop is currently planning a collection drive for January to help support the agency's need for cat food and supplies. In addition, the girls regularly volunteer at Pets Alive.
