Obit: George H. Hibbard

George H. Hibbard, 63, of Lewiston, died after a lengthy illness Saturday, Oct. 4, 2014, in Niagara Falls Memorial Medical Center.

Hibbard was born Feb. 19, 1951, in Niagara Falls, the son of the late Herbert and Dorothy (Hughes) Hibbard. He was a 1969 graduate of Lewiston-Porter High School where he had excelled on the swim and dive teams and held many records in both events.

In 1978, Hibbard graduated from Georgetown University as a certified paralegal. He returned to Lewiston and was employed by the New York Power Authority first as an operator for 20 years and then as a draftsman for 10 years. He retired in 2010.

Hibbard was a member of the former Niagara River Masonic Lodge No. 785 F&AM in Niagara Falls. He was a cancer survivor for more than five years. Through it all, he had a great sense of humor and was known to be a great prankster.

George is survived by his wife, Suzanne (Nowland) Hibbard, whom he married Aug. 3, 1974; a daughter, Jessica (Rob) Rockhold of Niagara Falls; a son, Joshua Hibbard (Sarah Burns) of Manhattan; and a brother, Peter F. (Elizabeth) Hibbard of Columbia, Maryland. He was predeceased by a stepson, John B. Hendricks Jr., and by his sister, Susann (Jerry) Farrell.

A celebration of his life was held Oct. 9 in Hardison Funeral Home in Lewiston.
