The AARP Foundation Tax-Aide program is now seeking volunteers for the upcoming tax season to help area taxpayers in need of assistance preparing and filing their tax returns. Last year, hundreds of volunteers helped prepare more 9,000 taxpayers across upstate New York, many of whom were seniors over the age of 60.

"In recent years, we have lost several of our volunteers and now have a real need for people who have a general knowledge of preparing income taxes and feel the need to help others," said Ken Greulich, local Tax-Aide coordinator. "They need not be experts. We will provide the necessary training."

Volunteers do not need to be an AARP member or a retiree. There are positions available to people with many different areas of expertise, such as tax volunteer, communications coordinator, greeter, technology coordinator, and administrative volunteer.

The Lewiston group assists taxpayers of all ages in the towns of Lewiston, Porter and Wilson filing their 2014 tax returns. Their locations include the Lewiston Library, the Lewiston Senior Center, the Wilson Library and the John Duke Senior Center in Niagara Falls, as well as sites in Youngstown, Grand Island, and LaSalle.

Volunteers are needed for the 2015 season at both the Lewiston and Niagara Falls locations. For more information on volunteer positions and how to join the AARP Foundation Tax-Aide team, visit their website at www.aarp.org/tavolunteer8, or email Greulich at [email protected].
