"The Legend lives on."

At 7 p.m. Friday, Nov. 7, Lewiston Council on the Arts presents "A Tribute to the Edmund Fitzgerald" at the Brickyard Pub & B.B.Q., 432 Center St. This multisensory, multimedia tribute will be hosted by artist and Fitzgerald enthusiast Thomas Paul Asklar.

The SS Edmund Fitzgerald, also known as the "Mighty Fitz," was an American Great Lakes freighter that sank in a Lake Superior storm Nov. 10, 1975. Its entire crew of 29 was lost.

The LCA program begins promptly at 7 p.m. with a 15-minute presentation by Asklar explaining the ship's history, the timeline of the tragedy, and theories of its destruction. A tolling of the bell will honor the crewmembers.

Musicians Bruce Wojick and Jamie Holka will perform songs with a nautical theme, including Gordon Lightfoot's most famous musical tribute, "Wreck of the Edmund Fitzgerald."

Wojick has been named the top original guitar player five times at the Buffalo Music Awards, and his songs have been featured in numerous television shows and films. Holka is a solo finger-style guitarist whose style incorporates many layers to assimilate bass, drums, chords and melody. He took third place in the North American Rock Guitar Competition in 2006 and has been a support act for many classic artists, such as Todd Rundgren, Michael McDonald, Steve Miller, Kansas and CCR.

"Edmund Fitzgerald Porter," made by Great Lakes Brewery, will be on tap all night, and prizes and giveaways will add to the fun.

This event is free for LCA members, and $5 for the general public. For more information, call the Lewiston Council on the Arts at 716-754-0166.
