The Buffalo City Mission has kicked off its annual "One Mission, One Hope" fall campaign by setting a goal of $2.3 million for 2014, to help raise critical funds necessary to sustain programs and services for the region's homeless. This year alone, the mission saw an increase in the number of individuals receiving assistance by 36 percent.

"Each year, we ask the communities help in providing the mission with critical funds needed to serve thousands of men, women and children who come through our doors for food, shelter and clothing," said Buffalo City Mission Executive Director Stuart Harper. "This year alone, we provided over 215,000 meals (a 13 percent increase from 2013) and over 85,000 safe night's sleep (a 17 percent increase from 2013) for our community."

Today, the Buffalo City Mission is an organization doing more than just providing food, clothing and shelter.

"The mission is about making an impact within our community," Harper said. "It's about changing the face of homelessness. Our goal is to provide a comprehensive approach of helping our clients by offering a wide range of services to help with addictions, healthy living, education programs, parenting skills, literacy, financial training and legal services, leading to stability and self-sufficiency."

The "One Mission, One Hope" fundraising campaign will run from October through the end of December. During this time, mission officials seek to raise about 36 percent of their annual operating budget.
