The Town of Wheatfield Lions Club has announced its fall season of events, which will include its annual free Senior Citizen Pancake Breakfast at the Henry Scibiz Five Senses Nature Park Clubhouse. The Lions Clubhouse is located on Ward Road next to American Legion Post 1451.

•The free Senior Citizen Pancake Breakfast will be held from 8 a.m. to 1 p.m. Sunday, Oct. 26. The Lion cooks are pancake flippers Paul Wilson and Bob Cliffe, and Art Kroening, who will be on the grill. Lions Debbie Carr and Carol Castagner will be in charge of a "Super Mega Basket Raffle."

•The first Wheatfield Lions Club Chili Festival and Basket Auction will be held from noon to 4 p.m. Saturday, Nov. 8, with Lion Walt Garrow, the "Chili Chef."

A basket auction will be available.

•The Five Senses Nature Park, which features plants that can be touched, smelled and some that even can be tasted, is available for all community residents to visit. It was established for the annual picnic for Western New York residents who are blind or visually impaired. The Wheatfield Lady Lions recently updated it with new plants and cosmetic repairs. The Five Senses plant beds are located in the area surrounding the gazebo.

The Wheatfield Lions Club has the only clubhouse among the 50 Lions Clubs in Western New York. The clubhouse has a dining/meeting area, kitchen, bathrooms, administrative office, pavilion and largest loan closet (medical assistance apparatuses) east of Syracuse. These are loaned for free to people in need of this type of equipment (contact Bill Ross).

The Wheatfield Lions Club generates funds not only from the annual Pancake Breakfast, but from the annual Blind Seal Drive, where community contributions help support many WNY agencies that help people with impaired sight, hearing and other disabilities.

The club also co-sponsors a Citizenship Awards Dinner for fourth-, fifth- and sixth-graders from the Niagara-Wheatfield public and parochial schools. The Town of Niagara and Wheatfield Lions Clubs have sponsored the Citizenship Dinner for more than 50 years, with an attendance of 250 to 300 parents, grandparents, teachers and Lions Club members to honor these young citizenship award winners.
