To celebrate International Credit Union Day Oct. 16, Cornerstone CFCU staff participated in several random acts of kindness throughout the Niagara County area. Employees from each of the five Cornerstone branches bought coffee, groceries and gas for unsuspecting customers at 7-11, Tim Hortons, NOCO, Gulf and the Orange Cat.

The group also made a donation of money and household items to the Lockport Cares house in the City of Lockport. While volunteers were there, they got a tour of the facility and learned more about the work being done to help the homeless in the community. "Coolest work hour of my life!" said Cornerstone employee Shari Elsenheimer, who visited the 7-11 store in Middleport to hand out gift cards. The rest of the volunteers echoed that sentiment.

"This day is all about celebrating the credit union difference," said Suzanne English, Cornerstone CFCU marketing director. "Credit unions are known by the motto 'People Helping People' so we wanted to do something to give back to the community that has supported us since we opened in 1957. It was so much fun surprising people! We are already looking forward to doing this again in 2015."

To learn more about Cornerstone CFCU, visit www.CornerstoneCommunityFCU.org or call 716-434-2290. Anyone who lives, works, worships, goes to school or volunteers in Niagara County can open an account with this credit union. Branch offices are located in Lewiston, Lockport, Middleport and North Tonawanda.
