Niagara Falls attorney John J. DelMonte has received the nomination of the 8th Judicial District for State Supreme Court, according to a campaign announcement earlier this month.

Eight months ago, Niagara County Democrats tapped DelMonte as their candidate for the seat. On Monday, Sept. 22, the judicial delegates of the 8th Judicial District, including the Democratic chairs from seven surrounding counties of Western New York, granted their support for his candidacy. DelMonte, a practicing trial attorney for 34 years, is vying for one of five Supreme Court seats in the Nov. 4 general election. His name will also appear on the Working Families Party line.

Niagara County Democratic Chairman Nick Forster said it has been 14 years since a Democrat from Niagara County has been selected to run for Supreme Court.

"It's not an easy process getting an endorsement from seven Democratic county chairs, but we know John is a quality and qualified person to seek a position on the Supreme Court bench," Forster said. "He worked extremely hard introducing himself, and presenting his credentials paid off.

DelMonte has extensive experience representing clients before the Supreme Court, handling all matters through trial and appeal. He is admitted to the New York State Bar, the United States Supreme Court, United States District Court, Western District and the state of Florida.

DelMonte is a past member of the 8th Judicial District Grievance Committee, a member of the New York State Trial Lawyers Association and a past commercial and Lemon Law arbitrator. He was chosen by his peers in 2006 as one of Business First's "Who's Who in Law."

DelMonte is married and the father of two children.
