The Niagara USA Chamber of Commerce will host a debate between candidates for the 62nd District seat of the New York State Senate. This is the seat held by Sen. George Maziarz, who is not running for re-election.

The debate will be held at 7 p.m. Wednesday, Oct. 15, in the Niagara County Community College arts and media building theater, 3111 Saunders Settlement Road, Sanborn. Meghan Rossman, reporter for Time Warner Cable News, will moderate the debate. In this format, candidates will be asked questions by the moderator with a set time to respond and a rebuttal from the opposing candidate.

"We feel this debate will be a good opportunity for the public to hear of each candidates' beliefs in their own words. It also gives the candidates a chance to highlight their stances on various issues," said Kory Schuler, Niagara USA director of government affairs. "We do not endorse candidates, and we did not create the questions for this debate. We just feel that, as the largest business advocacy organization in Niagara County, we should be providing a platform for the candidates to address our members, the business community, and members of the public on where they stand on issues facing Niagara County and the rest of the 62nd district."

This event is open to the public and to the media, although questions will not be taken from the audience. No political materials such as signs, T-shirts or handouts will be allowed in the theater.

Those attending should arrive at least one half hour before the debate begins.
