Six musical ensembles perform in July and early August

Artpark & Company will present six concerts on a newly constructed stage in the Emerald Grove area of the lower park (enter park at South Fourth Street), just outside of the art gallery and information center. Concerts in the new "Music in the Woods" series start at 4 p.m. and are free to the public.

The schedule includes:

•July 6, Rockwell Brass Quintet: The band will take guests through four centuries of brass music from Bach to Beatles.

•July 13, Fredonia Faculty Percussion Ensemble: Using instruments from around world, the group will create a unique environmental space that can only be experienced in the woods at Artpark.

•July 20, Harmonia Chamber Singers: Musicians will perform a variety of a-cappella pieces, from Renaissance madrigals to vocal jazz.

•July 27, Collage: The act brings together non-traditional groups of instruments to create a unique sound. The piece "In C" by Terry Riley will be featured in the program, as this year marks its 50th anniversary.

•Aug. 10, Buffalo Niagara Concert Band Ensemble: The band presents everything from the classics to Broadway medlies. Pieces include composers such as Purcell, Teleman and Scott Joplin.

•Aug. 17, Lexington String Quartet: An outstanding quartet of leading international musicians well known for their ability to spin a phrase, whether Haydn or Hendricks, will take center stage.

This series is sponsored by Calspan. Artpark & Company invites music lovers to bring a chair or blanket and pack a picnic basket to enjoy during the show.
