Buffalo is joining the international movement "Globe-athon" on Friday with an event to raise awareness of silent, yet deadly "below the belt" cancers.

This Friday, "Globe-athon" is partnering with the WNY Ovarian Cancer Project to light up Niagara Falls teal for ovarian cancer during its annual fundraiser at Niagara Falls State Park's Top of the Falls Restaurant. The event is an evening of celebration, remembrance, camaraderie and international awareness. Additionally, Congressman Brian Higgins will receive a "HOPE" award for his commitment and support to the cancer community.

With September GYN Cancer Awareness Month, "Globe-athon" organizers said now is the time for women to start learning about gynecologic cancers - as awareness is the main barrier to early detection and prevention of these hard-to-detect diseases.
