Congressman Brian Higgins released the following statement in response to the news the Buffalo Bills preseason game will be blacked out this Thursday and instead will be aired Friday:

"Once again, Western New York television screens go dark at kickoff," he said. "This is unacceptable. Buffalo Bills' fans contribute financial support to Ralph Wilson Stadium and deserve to watch their hometown team. It is time for the FCC and NFL to eliminate this unfair policy."

FCC Commissioner Ajit Pai recently visited Buffalo to speak on this issue. He stood with Higgins and announced his support to eliminate the FCC's "outdated" television blackout rules.

Higgins has been vocal in his opposition to existing sports blackout rules. He introduced H.R. 3452, the Furthering Access and Networks for Sports (FANS) Act, which would eliminate the exemption that enables the NFL to blackout sporting events locally when the game has not sold out in advance.
