Heart of Niagara Animal Rescue volunteers will be walking in the Lewiston Peach Festival Parade on Saturday, Sept. 6. The parade begins at 11 a.m. near the Red Brick Municipal Building and proceeds down Center Street to the base of Academy Park.

Heart of Niagara adopters, fosters, volunteers and their families are invited to walk in the parade with their own dog-friendly dogs on a leash to show solidarity and support of the rescue's ongoing work of helping animals find forever homes.

Walkers are asked to meet at 10 a.m. on parade day outside Grandpaws Pet Emporium's new location, corner of North Fourth and Center streets. A Heart of Niagara representative will escort walkers and their dogs to HON's place in the parade line.

The public is invited to meet Heart of Niagara representatives immediately following the parade at their booth in Academy Park, which will be located near the Peach Festival tent and grandstand area. HON volunteers (and adoptable animals) will meet and greet the public and provide information about the adoption process, animal care, and upcoming meetings and events.

Heart of Niagara is a not-for-profit companion animal rescue organization based in Niagara County. Its mission is to protect the health and welfare of abandoned, unwanted and homeless animals. Volunteers have adopted out more than 200 animals to date, and operate solely on donations and the generosity and support of the public.

HON welcomes new volunteers. It meets from 6:30-8 p.m. the second Wednesday of each month at First Presbyterian Church, 505 Cayuga St., Lewiston. For more information, visit www.heartofniagara.org, "Like" HON on Facebook or call HON's main number at 716-345-7129.
