Morrissey to embark on U.S. concert tour
Artist's first new album in five years to be released later this year
Globally renowned recording and performing artist Morrissey will embark on an extensive U.S. Tour on May 7 in San Jose at the City National Civic Center Auditorium. The tour will continue across the country through June 21, when it concludes in Brooklyn at Barclays Center Arena. The tour of more than two-dozen performances will include dates at renowned theaters, opera houses, concert halls and arenas, affirming the artist's unique relationship with his fans built on a 30-year recording and performing career that enables him to command the stage at venues of every kind.
Morrissey's special guest on all dates will be singer, songwriter and keyboardist Kristeen Young, with Tom Jones joining Morrissey as support artist in Los Angeles and Sir Cliff Richard as support artist in New York City.
The tour dates will come on the heels of Morrissey's completion of his forthcoming Harvest Records debut album - the artist's first since 2009's "Years Of Refusal" - recorded in France with producer Joe Chiccarelli. Joining Morrissey on tour will be his longtime band, including Boz Boorer (guitar), Jesse Tobias (guitar), Solomon Walker (bass), Matthew Walker (drums) and Gustavo Manzur (keyboards).
Morrissey's recent "Autobiography" became one of the fastest-selling memoirs in the UK upon its release in October, and set first-week sales records when it entered the UK charts at No. 1 (a slot it held for five weeks). Its release also marked the first time a living author had been published by Penguin Classics in the imprint's nearly 70-year history.
Morrissey's solo career began in 1988, after the dissolution of The Smiths, with the release of "Viva Hate." His influence on music and culture has continued to grow over the past 25 years through the release of nine globally acclaimed studio albums and an array of singles, rarities collections and live recordings. He is renowned as one of the world's most legendary and influential performing artists of all time, recently exemplified in last year's concert film, "Morrissey 25: Live," recorded in March at a rare intimate show at Hollywood High School in Los Angeles.
