Arts Services Initiative of Western New York Inc. has announced the application process for New York State Council on the Arts Decentralization regrants in Erie and Niagara counties. All new applicants must attend an information session and complete a cultural data project report (if requesting between $2,000 and $5,000). Applications are due Oct. 10 for the following grants:

The grants are meant for smaller cultural organizations, non-cultural organizations with arts programs or events, arts and cultural coalitions and networks, individual artists and teaching artists. It is expected approximately $100,000 in total will be available. Guidelines, applications and a list of information sessions are available now at www.asiwny.org.

"We are excited to announce our third cycle of these grants, administered on behalf of the New York State Council on the Arts," ASI Associate Director and DEC Coordinator Jen Swan said. "Just in these three years, we have seen many new groups and ideas, including dedicated artist grants to Erie and Niagara. We are constantly working with NYSCA to increase funding opportunities in the two counties and working to further our outreach to let everyone know about this opportunity."

Three panels will review applications:

•Erie County Community Arts & Arts Education, chaired by African American Cultural Center's Paul Robeson Theatre Artistic Director Paulette Harris

•Niagara County Community Arts & Arts Education, chaired by Castellani Art Museum of Niagara University Director Kate Koperski

•Erie & Niagara Counties Individual Artist, chaired by Buffalo State College adjunct professor Gerald Mead.

"Grant management is a great opportunity for ASI to work with organizations in building their capacity," said ASI Executive Director Tod A. Kniazuk. "We've seen several of organizations be successful in obtaining other grants after we've helped them through our process, making the DEC program a success for the funded organizations and for Arts Services Initiative."
