Niagara County Sheriff's Office statement on James Drive standoff

The Niagara County Sheriff's Office released the following information following a standoff at James Drive in Lewiston:

"On July 27th, 2014 at 1258 hours the Niagara County Sheriff's office received a 911 call for a 35-year-old male threatening to cut his wrists on James Drive in the Town of Lewiston. When Niagara County Sheriff's deputies and Lewiston Police officers arrived on scene, information was received that the male had a can of gasoline and a flare gun. The male threatened to blow the house up if he saw anyone trying to get in. The Sheriff's Office Emergency Response Team and Crisis Negotiation Team were activated. Nearby residents were evacuated while others were advised to shelter in place via New York Alert. After successful negotiations with the subject over the course of approximately two hours, the male finally came out of the house without incident.

"The male was transported to by police to the Niagara Falls Memorial Hospital for evaluation."
