Rose M. McGahan, age 86, died peacefully on March 7, 2014.

Nothing was more important to Rose than being a great wife and mother. She and her late husband John J. McGahan had four children, and it was for John and her children, Karen, Leo, Andy and John Jr., that Rose lived her life. As her children had their own families, and after her husband's death, Rose not only became a doting grandmother, but also helped raise Karen's daughters, Katie and Jen, and Leo's children, Kristen, Michelle and Michael. She was tireless in her daily efforts to make a house a home and make her children and grandchildren feel loved and cared for. Her spunk and energy was boundless. She was known for her warm smile and her warm chocolate chip cookies.

Rose was born to Paul and Sarah (Bavisotto) Ambrosone, on Nov. 4, 1927, in Corning. She was one of seven children. Although living at a distance as adults, her siblings were very important to her. After high school, Rose worked as a secretary at Corning Glass, where she met John McGahan. In 1954 they were married and began their family on Grand Island. For eight years before their retirement to Canandaigua, they lived in Annandale, N.J., near son Andy and his family. Rose has lived the last 20 years with her daughter Karen in Framingham.

Rose is predeceased by her siblings, Peter Ambrosone, Joseph Ambrosone, Stella Pesoli and Mike Ambrosone; half-brother Nicholas Ambrosone; and by daughter-in-law Annie (Pallone) McGahan.

Rose is survived by daughter Karen (Yang) Dawe and son-in-law Matt; son Leo McGahan and soon-to-be daughter-in-law Celeste, son Andy and daughter-in-law Debbie (Ziarniak) McGahan, and son John McGahan and daughter-in-law Elly Claus-McGahan. She is also survived by adoring grandchildren, their spouses and step-grandchildren: Katie Yang and Eric Madfis, Jen (Yang) Gulino and Andrew Gulino, Kristen, Michelle and Michael McGahan, Christina, Nicholas and Melissa McGahan, Ian and Kees McGahan, Garry, David, Amy and Marie Margolius and Meghan and Andrew Dawe. Rose is also survived by her sisters, Mary Kelly and Teresa Bothe, and many nieces and nephews.

In lieu of flowers, the family is requesting donations be made to the American Cancer Society. A funeral Mass was held on Thursday, March 13, at 4:15 p.m. at St. Stephen's Church, 221 Concord St., Framingham, Mass.
