Niagara University: Melissa Langridge named outstanding employee of the quarter

Melissa Langridge, coordinator of user education in the Our Lady of Angels Library at Niagara University, has been named NU's outstanding employee of the quarter. Langridge, of Wilson, was presented with the award today by the Rev. James J. Maher, C.M., Niagara president.

Langridge has been with Niagara since 2008. She first joined the university as a temporary employee in the library in January 2008 and transitioned into a full-time position in August of that same year.

One of her supervisors stated, "Many of the students and faculty who Melissa supports go out of their way to tell me how good she is. She is well liked and praised by everyone she encounters."

In describing Langridge's work, her supervisor added, "Melissa is the best relationship builder I know, which makes her a great employee. But she also exemplifies the caring attitude that all of us interested in retention should strive for."

Langridge has been the recipient of several "Purple Pats," which describe her ongoing commitment to the university community. A message included with one said, "Thanks for your endless energy and assistance to your colleagues and the students here in the library and across the campus."

Another comment from a co-worker stated, "Melissa is a very dedicated and caring person in academic and personal relationships. Students will come into the library at any time of day (or even at night) requesting to see Melissa to help them with papers or research, and Melissa will be there for them. We are glad to have Melissa with us at the library!!!"

Another quote from Langridge's supervisor complimented her commitment to Niagara University and its mission: "NU is all about its personal, attentive and caring support of students. Melissa does that every day. She establishes long-term, supportive relationships with many students who she encounters in the library instruction classes she teaches."

Nominations for the outstanding employee award are made by NU employees, students, alumni, parents or other persons who come in contact with NU employees. Honorees are eligible to receive gift certificates to area amenities, movie passes, two days off during the next quarter, NU athletics tickets and a universal parking tag that can be used in any non-handicapped parking spot on campus.
