First "glamping" resort in New York state open for business
The Woods at Bear Creek will celebrate the grand opening of its "glamping" resort Friday, July 18, from 2 to 11 p.m., and Saturday, July 19, from noon until 10 p.m. at 3510 Bear Creek Road, Franklinville (just 15 minutes from the Village of Ellicottville). The weekend's events will include resort tours, wine tastings and live entertainment by local bands including Stimulus Package, Fred and Tuck and The Boys of Summer.
In addition, on Saturday, a $10 day pass will be available to attendees, which will provide full-day access to all the resort's activities, including Western New York's longest zip line, Olympic-size pool, fishing paddle boats, kayaks, canoes, basketball, tennis and 13 miles of hiking trails. A complete schedule of grand opening weekend festivities is available at www.thewoodsatbearcreek.com.
The Woods at Bear Creek is the first resort in New York to offer its visitors "glamping" services, or upscale camping accommodations. The 750-acre property delivers a one-of-a-kind full-service lodging experience, featuring 16 fully furnished, two-bedroom, full bathrooms, heated and air-conditioned cabins. All cabins include Wi-Fi and flat screen TVs with DirectTV. The resort also offers 25 glamping tents, which are assembled and have platform-based safari-style tents appointed with carpet, mattress and bedding and furniture.
"It is our hope that our new 'glamping' resort, the first of its kind in New York, will inspire guests to visit us for a wilderness vacation, while still experiencing the perks of furnished cabins and concierge service," said Michael Crimi, executive director.
Also available at The Woods at Bear Creek is Hutch's on the Lake Restaurant, featuring an Adirondack-designed dining room serving breakfast, lunch and dinner, with additional deck dining overlooking the lake. Offering both casual and formal dining, Hutch's menu includes a variety of wild game and fish. An on-site banquet facility is also available for weddings and other special events.
"After several years of planning and hard work, we are excited that The Woods at Bear Creek is officially open for business and bringing the concept of 'glamping' to Cattaraugus County," said Brian McFadden, executive director of the Ellicottville Chamber of Commerce. "The combination of the resort's accommodations, dining and activities are a fantastic complement to the variety of attractions for residents and visitors alike throughout the Ellicottville region."
