Cornerstone Community Federal Credit Union today announced a 12-year agreement with Lockport Ice Arena & Sports Center Inc. for the naming rights to the new 93,500-square-foot facility under construction at 34 Chestnut St. Slated to open in September, the facility will be called Cornerstone CFCU Arena.

The agreement includes exclusive exterior facility naming rights, interior and exterior signage, on-site ATM presence, and use of the facility on select Cornerstone member nights. Financial terms of the deal were not disclosed.

"The Cornerstone CFCU Arena will be a lasting community resource that will anchor the ongoing rebirth of the Erie Canal corridor in downtown Lockport, and improve the lives of residents throughout Niagara County for decades to come," said Dave Nemi, chairman of the Cornerstone board of directors. "Cornerstone has invested in our community for more than 50 years, and this arena will build on our legacy by contributing construction jobs in the short term and a substantial growth in tourism and hospitality over the long term."

The Cornerstone CFCU Arena will feature two NHL regulation-size rinks, a pro shop, a performance training center, and seating for 630 spectators. In addition to competitive hockey, the facility will be used for training, figure skating, open skate, and opportunities for those with physical or developmental disabilities and special needs. The rinks will be equipped to accommodate sled hockey.

It will also offer 5,000 square feet of retail space, including food service, a performance-training center and a community room. Officials estimate annual skater and spectator traffic to exceed 150,000 by 2015.

"The Cornerstone CFCU Arena is not solely a sports facility. It is a community resource that will combat juvenile delinquency and the deterioration of our neighborhoods, promote social welfare and physical fitness, lessen the burdens of government, and help foster good sportsmanship," said John Ottaviano, chairman of Lockport Ice Arena & Sports Center Inc. "Cornerstone is a recognized leader in the community that has supported countless programs through the years, and we are gratified that they have made this substantial commitment to making our dream a reality."

Established in 1957 as Unit No. 1 Federal Credit Union, Cornerstone CFCU is a community chartered, federally insured credit union. Cornerstone has grown to become the largest credit union based in Western New York with more than 47,000 members and assets in excess of $360 million. Those who live, work, volunteer, attend school or worship within Niagara County are eligible for membership under Cornerstone's charter.
