Sara Poreda, a middle school math and science teacher at Holy Ghost Lutheran School in Bergholz, has been selected to participate with approximately 210 teachers - both national and international - in the Honeywell Educators @ Space Academy in Huntsville, Alabama, from June 18 to 24.
The program is designed for teachers to learn new and innovative techniques to educate their students about science and math. Classroom activities will include simulated astronaut training exercises, high-performance jet simulations, scenario-based space missions, and flying programs.
Poreda enjoys teaching, opening her students minds to the world around them so they can learn and grow in ways that help them best utilize their talents.
She is a graduate of St. John Lutheran School and Niagara Catholic High School. She received her undergraduate degree at Le Moyne College and her graduate degree from the State University of New York at Buffalo.
