The New York Power Authority's "Sensational Saturday: Staying Safe in the Sun" event will be held May 10, from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m., at the Niagara Power Vista, the visitors center at the Niagara Power Project.

Guests are invited to take part in a poster contest that discusses how to take precautions from the sun's harmful rays as summer approaches. Entrants can draw, paint or use photography to deliver a sun-safe message. Anyone can enter.

Posters may be dropped off at the Power Vista, 5777 Lewiston Road, Lewiston, at any time prior to the start of the event.

All entries will be on display Saturday, May 10, with winners announced at 3 p.m.

The top three winning posters will be exhibited at Roswell Park Cancer Institute's Sunflower Café, on the first floor of RPCI, Elm Street, Buffalo, from Tuesday, May 13, through Wednesday, May 30, in observance of Melanoma Awareness Month.

Movies on sun safety and solar energy will be shown throughout the event in the Power Vista classroom. Activity sheets and safety education materials will be available.

Guests are also invited to enjoy the Power Vista's interactive displays and exhibits, learn more about electricity, energy efficiency and area history, as well as enjoy the unique views from an observation deck 350 feet above the Niagara River Gorge.

Parking and admission are always free.

For more information, call the Power Vista at 716-286-6661 or email [email protected].
