"The Haystack" has been covered with bacon.
With shaved rib-eye steak covered in melted mozzarella and toasted hash browns, set atop a fresh hoagie roll, Lewiston's world-famous sandwich already was irresistible.
Now, it's just plain legendary.
The Silo Restaurant has added bacon - crisp, flavorful bacon! - to its original "Haystack" sandwich.
This added bonus costs just $1 more, and trust me when I say it's totally worth it.
This meat-on-meat masterpiece is one of many menu changes this summer.
"We have new gourmet burgers and sandwiches that are so full of flavor," said The Silo's proprietor, Alan Hastings. "The 'Austin Burger,' inspired by our friends in Austin, Texas, is one you won't want to miss. Our new BLTT (bacon, lettuce, tomato and smoked turkey) is delicious, and we have added some fresh items to our vegetarian menu, as well. We will be profiling a weekly creative gourmet burger on our special board; watch for some tasty and artistic creations there."
Additionally, "We've added to our side offerings, with some new healthier choices," he said. "You can now find milk, carrots and applesauce to accompany your kids meals."
When it came time to plan for 2014, "We reached out to our Facebook fans and asked them what changes they would like to see on our menu," The Silo's Stacey Sheehan said. "They gave us some great ideas, and we were happy to introduce several of them. We will be offering our thanks throughout the season in the form of some nice offers specifically for our Facebook followers."
Now, if you're still reading this article - perhaps you've taken your iPad along for the car ride to The Silo - then you deserve a treat.
How about an ice cream sundae?
"We've spawned a match made in Heaven by joining forces with The Village Bake Shoppe, who have commissioned us a very special, one-of-a-kind s'mores cookie," Sheehan said. "Those will be sold exclusively at The Silo, and you'll be able to find a mammoth s'mores monster sundae, with a premiere Bake Shoppe cookie base, for sale at the caboose. As far as desserts go, it's no joke!"
The Silo Restaurant is now open. Stop by 115 N. Water St., Lewiston. Visit The Silo on Facebook and online at www.lewistonsilo.com.
