The Niagara History Center's circa-1823 Col. William Bond-Jesse Hawley House will be open for two event weekends in advance of its 2014 season. The fully furnished, 12-room, National Register-listed house will be open to visitors during "History in Your Backyard," Thursday-Saturday, May 8-10, 1-4 p.m. each day, and during "Path Through History" weekend, Saturday and Sunday, June 7 and 8, also from 1-4 p.m.

The Bond-Hawley House will officially open for 2014 Saturday, June 14. That is a second "Path Through History Weekend," featuring the 2014 exhibit "Treasured Childhood Memories," a collection of children's fashions, playthings and memorabilia from 1860-1960. The house will also be open Sunday, June 15. Hours will be 1-4 p.m.

The exhibit's regular days and hours will then be every Saturday and Monday, 1-4 p.m., through Dec. 20, excluding Monday holidays. The exhibit will also be open Sunday, Oct. 18, as part of the "Doors Open Niagara" weekend. Donations are always accepted.

The Bond-Hawley House is Lockport's oldest brick home. It was built by early Lockport community leader Col. William Bond and later owned by Erie Canal advocate Jesse Hawley, who influenced Gov. Dewitt Clinton to construct the canal.

Bond House docents guide visitors and offer information on the home's history. The Bond House's long and busy season requires many volunteer docents to welcome and assist guests. If you can help, call the History Center at 716-434-7433.
