The North Tonawanda History Museum will host Town of Tonawanda Historian John W. Percy as he presents a program on the War of 1812 in Western New York. The event begins at 2 p.m. Saturday, April 26. Percy is an ex-officio trustee and advisory committee member of the History Museum.

The program will be part of an all-day open house in celebration of the History Museum's tenth anniversary. The public is invited to tour 10,000 square feet of exhibits from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m.

The originally scheduled program on the War of 1812 by Robert Arnold will not take place.

Percy has presented a number of programs in the past for the History Museum and has proofed some of its publications. He has been town historian in the Town of Tonawanda for 40 years. He was the Village of Kenmore historian for 12 years, and trustee/member/officer of the Tonawanda-Kenmore Historical Society for 40 years. Percy is a retired history teacher in the City of Tonawanda School District. He worked there for 35 years, and authored numerous historical publications.

Executive Director Donna Zellner Neal often tells people of Percy's comment when she called him in October 2003 to inform him a board of trustees was formed to create the North Tonawanda History Museum. As she invited him to serve as an advisory committee member, Percy responded, "It's about time! North Tonawanda has such a rich and unique history and no one has ever done anything with it!"

Neal said it's only fitting Percy present at the History Museum's 10th anniversary celebration.
