Technology giant Yahoo!, a worldwide provider of communication tools on the Internet and mobile devices, and one of Niagara County's fastest-growing employers, has teamed up with Niagara Hospice to sponsor The Mighty Niagara Half Marathon. Yahoo! will be the presenting sponsor for the annual event, which raises money for the programs and services provided by Niagara Hospice.

"Yahoo! is excited to be this year's presenting sponsor for The Mighty Niagara Half Marathon," said Paul Bonaro, director of data centers, Eastern U.S. and EMEA, for Yahoo!. "I'm thrilled that so many from our talented and growing team at our Lockport data center will take part in this year's event - whether as racers or volunteers. Lockport is a wonderful home for us in Western New York, and we're always looking for ways to give back to the local community."

The Mighty Niagara Half Marathon is held in conjunction with the Hospice Dash 5K. It is slated for Sept. 20. Race Chairman Paul Beatty Jr. started the event in 2009 as a 5K and added the half marathon in 2011. The event has grown into one of the most successful fundraisers for Niagara Hospice - and has also become one of the most popular races in Western New York.

The race uniquely features bands throughout the entire course, as well as before and after the run. The post-race party features a popular local group, Strictly Hip, and offers added value for runners with beer, water, hot dogs, snacks and much more.

"We are so glad to have Yahoo! as our presenting sponsor," said Brendan McIntyre, director of development for Niagara Hospice "With the expansion of their Lockport data center underway, this is a great way for Yahoo! to help the community and get their employees involved in our event as participants and volunteers."

Registration for the race is now open, with team registration available for the first time. "We have always had people run or walk as a team, but this year we decided to make it official with prizes for best team spirit and fundraising awards," Beatty said. "We are encouraging local businesses to get involved and create corporate teams as well."
