Zonta Club of Grand Island: Zonta Fashion Fling is April 6

The Zonta Club of Grand Island is holding its annual Spring Fashion Fling at a new venue with brand new fashion designs. The event will take place at noon on Sunday, April 6, at River Oaks, 210 Whitehaven Road.

Tickets for the fashion show are $25 and include a sit-down lunch, including a glass of champagne. There will be lots of prizes, with basket raffles and a Money Tree.

Chico's is providing the latest in women's designer fashion and clothing, modeled by Zonta members and their family and friends. The MC is Islander Dennis Keefe, a veteran of Oldies 104, WNED-AM and the St. Stephen's Parish Players.

The Spring Fashion Fling is the major fundraiser for the club's scholarship fund. The Grand Island club has awarded more than $105,000 in scholarships to date.

Zonta President Agnes Becker said there are plenty of reasons to attend the event.

"The Zonta Fashion Show is a wonderful opportunity to spend a pleasant spring afternoon with friends viewing the latest fashions, enjoying lunch and winning prizes while you are supporting the Grand Island Zonta Club Scholarship Fund," she said.

This year, the Zonta Club will award four $750 scholarships in three categories at the annual awards dinner on June 24. The categories include the Veronica Connor Scholarship for two high school seniors accepted at a college for the fall; the Memorial Scholarship Award, to be presented to a woman between the ages of 18 and 25 who is enrolled in a degree or certification program; and the Career Advancement Scholarship, for a woman over 25 who is in a program to further her education or re-enter the job market.

Zonta is a service organization, with 31,000 members worldwide, that is dedicated to advancing the status of women. The Grand Island Club helps women locally and in developing countries around the world. The club also has contributed locally to the Neighbors Foundation, the Relay For Life, Grand Island's Miracle League, Rotary's Haiti medical mission, Child and Family Services, Hospice, Carolyn's House, Habitat for Humanity, Roswell Park Cancer Institute, Read and Seed and St. Vincent DePaul, among others.
