With the weather finally breaking its grip from winter, Ray's Tavern in the Town of Porter, the Youngstown Village Diner and the Dory Trading Post, both in the Village of Youngstown have joined forces to celebrate the first-ever "Spring in the Village." The event will take place Saturday, April 12, starting at 9 a.m. It includes special offerings for visitors and area residents.

"We're celebrating the end of winter and the beginning of spring," said Cathy Pasquantino, co-owner of the Youngstown Village Diner. On Saturday, the diner will offer free face-painting from 9 a.m. until 1 p.m. for children who accompany breakfast and lunch patrons.

The Dory Trading Post will have several activities, including picture taking with Jake, the famous wooden icon who welcomes visitors to the store. Joining him will be the Dory's live mascot, "Meet Joe Cotton-Poodle." Both will be dressed as Easter bunnies.

The Dory will also be handing out door prizes and give-away gifts to complement a book signing by author and well-known resident Gretchen Duling. Joining them will be 2013 Peach Queen Ali Casale for a meet-and-greet during the day.

Ray's Tavern in Porter is also participating in this event with a complimentary spring flowers for the ladies from 4 to 8 p.m., and free treats for the kids during dinner hours.

Event coordinators Miss Jane of the Dory and Ray's, and Pasquantino remind visitors to "shop small," and hope that by creating this special spring event visitors will see Youngstown businesses do, indeed, remain open throughout the winter and appreciate public support.

The Youngstown Village Diner is located at 425 Main St., the Dory Trading Post is at 435 Main St., both in the village, and Ray's Tavern is located at 1694 Lake Road.
