On March 29, the Niagara Falls Police Department and Niagara Falls Fire Department will play a benefit hockey game for Jack Schroeder, whose family is raising money for a diabetic alert dog.

Jack Schroeder has nonverbal autism as well as type 1 juvenile diabetes, and a dog in Texas (Lucy) is being trained at Drey Alert Dogs to help monitor Jack and facilitate management of his blood sugar.

The game will take place at the Hyde Park Ice Pavilion at 7:30 p.m.

On April 6, Rob's Comedy Playhouse in Williamsville will host a benefit fundraiser for Jack at 7:30 p.m. (Visit adogforjack.com for more information.) The family is also accepting donations at any First Niagara Bank under the account "Benefit Fund for Jack Schroeder."

Nicole Schroeder and her husband, Michael, have raised about $13,000 of the $18,000 needed to train the dog, a yellow lab. They hope to have Lucy in August.

The Schroeders received a $1,000 donation from Austin Against Autism, a Grand Island group.
