Grand Island Town Engineer John Whitney received the Charles W. Nichols Award from the American Public Works Association, New York chapter, western branch, at its recent 2014 awards banquet. The APWA is a group of engineers who honor their peers for exemplary work; seven project awards and three individual awards were presented.
Whitney was nominated by GHD Consulting Services Inc., the town's team for the waste water system on Grand Island. Whitney was recognized for his professional and exemplary response to the collapse of the 30-inch wastewater line during August 2013.
