Is cabin fever setting in? One event sure to cure your winter doldrums is the Buffalo Geological Society's 46th annual Gem, Mineral and Fossil Show. The event takes place at the Grange Market Building on the Erie County Fairgrounds in Hamburg. Show hours are 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. Saturday, March 22, and 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Sunday March 23.
This year's theme is "Lapidary: The Magic of Cut Stones." The Gem, Mineral and Fossil Show will again feature the "Mini-Mine," in which children under age 12 can "mine" minerals and fossils, have them identified by experts, and take them home; and "Grandpa's Corner," where the youngest scientists and geologists can create works of art.
Come and explore the numerous demonstrations, collections and exhibits. This extraordinary show is a can't-miss event for the entire family. It has long been considered one of Western New York's great field trips and - don't tell the children - it's sure to be a learning adventure.
Admission is $5 per person, per day, or $7 for a two-day admission. Scouts in uniform and children under age 12 are admitted free of charge. Parking is free, too.
