Erie County Sheriff's Office Report for Feb. 21, 2014

The Erie County Sheriff's Office responded to 130 calls from Feb. 8 to 14. Below is a sampling of the noteworthy incidents on Grand Island.

Deputies responded to six burglary false alarm calls and two fire alarms during the dates of this report.

Saturday, Feb. 8

•West River Road, motorist broke down - Deputies assisted a motorist whose vehicle had become disabled.

Sunday, Feb. 9

•Staley Road, motorist broke down - Deputies assisted a motorist whose vehicle had become disabled.

•Grand Island Boulevard, welfare check - Deputies responded to a report of a 911 hang-up call at a business. Deputies spoke with employees on location and determined that no police assistance was needed.

•East River Road, property-damage-only accident - Deputies responded to a report of a one-car motor vehicle accident. No injuries were reported.

Monday, Feb. 10

•West River Road, suspicious incident - A complainant stated he received a call from a subject claiming he was from the IRS. The subject asked for personal information and threatened that the complainant would be arrested. Deputies advised the complainant that the telephone call was likely a phone scam.

•Whitehaven Road, property-damage-only accident - Deputies responded to a report of a one-car motor vehicle accident. No injuries were reported.

•Grand Island Boulevard, welfare check - Deputies responded to a report of a 911 hang-up call at a business. Deputies spoke with employees on location and determined that no police assistance was needed.

•Havenwood Lane, all-terrain vehicle complaint - A complainant stated that ATVs were operating on the snowmobile trails in the area. Deputies checked the area but were unable to locate the ATVs.

•East River Road, deer struck - Deputies responded to a report of a one-car motor vehicle accident involving a deer. No injuries were reported.

Tuesday, Feb. 11

•East Park Road, water main break - Deputies responded to a report of a water main break in the area. The Grand Island Water Department was notified.

•Baseline Road, property-damage-only accident - Deputies responded to a report of a two-car motor vehicle accident. No injuries were reported.

•West River Road, animal loose - A complainant stated that two dogs were running loose in the neighborhood. The dog control officer was notified.

•Whitehaven Road, drunk driving - Deputies responded to a report of a vehicle operating erratically on Whitehaven Road. Deputies located the vehicle nearby and arrested the driver, a 65-year-old woman from Grand Island, for driving while intoxicated and other traffic infractions. The woman registered a .19 percent blood-alcohol content after submitting a sample of her breath for chemical analysis. She was additionally charged with aggravated driving while intoxicated due to the elevated reading. She was issued an appearance ticket returnable to the Town of Grand Island Court and released to a sober third party.

•Ransom Road, welfare check - Deputies responded to a report of a 911 hang-up call at Grand Island High School. Deputies spoke to employees on location and determined no police assistance was needed.

•Lang Boulevard, welfare check - Deputies responded to a report of a 911 hang-up call at a local manufacturing business. Deputies spoke to employees on location and determined the call to be a misdial.

Wednesday, Feb. 12

•Stony Point Road, property-damage-only accident - Deputies responded to a report of a two-car motor vehicle accident. No injuries were reported.

•Baseline Road, residential burglary - A complainant stated that, sometime in recent days, an unknown person or persons entered her apartment and stole a laptop computer. An investigation into the matter is ongoing.

•Ransom Road, larceny - A complainant stated that while his son was at basketball practice, someone stole his iPhone from a book bag. The complainant was able to locate the phone using an application he had downloaded. Deputies spoke to numerous persons that may have been involved but were unable to recover the phone. The next day, the complainant again used the application to obtain a location of the phone. The complainant was able to locate the phone buried in the snow. An investigation into the matter is ongoing.

•Ferry Road, motorist broke down - Deputies assisted a motorist whose vehicle had become disabled.

Thursday, Feb. 13

•Jen Court, fraud - A complainant stated that, sometime in recent days, someone made fraudulent charges on his credit card from a location in California.

•Queens Drive, assault - Deputies responded to a report of two females fighting at a residence. Their investigation led to the arrest of a 24-year-old woman from Grand Island for third-degree assault (a class A misdemeanor), second-degree menacing (a class A misdemeanor) and fourth-degree criminal possession of a weapon (a class A misdemeanor). The woman was transported to the Erie County Holding Center pending her arraignment in the Town of Grand Island Court.

Friday, Feb. 14

•Ransom Road, larceny - A complainant stated that an unknown person stole an iPod Touch from a locker while he was at Grand Island High School.

•Baseline Road, deer struck - Deputies responded to a report of a one-car motor vehicle accident involving a deer. No injuries were reported.

•Grand Island Boulevard, warrant arrest - Following an investigation of a disturbance, deputies arrested a 46-year-old man from Grand Island after a check showed he had an outstanding warrant from the City of Buffalo. The man was transferred to the custody of the Buffalo Police Department.
