Erie County Sheriff's Office Report for Feb. 7, 2014

The Erie County Sheriff's Office responded to 162 calls from Jan. 25 to 31. Below is a sampling of the noteworthy incidents on Grand Island.

Deputies responded to eight burglary false alarm calls and eight fire alarm during the dates of this report.

Saturday, Jan. 25

•Love Road, property-damage-only accident - Deputies responded to a report of a one-car motor vehicle accident in which a vehicle struck a mailbox and fled the scene. Deputies located the vehicle and driver nearby and issued several traffic tickets returnable to the Town of Grand Island Court.

•Broadway, warrant arrest - While investigating the above complaint of an accident, deputies arrested a juvenile offender on an outstanding bench warrant from the Town of Lewiston. The juvenile offender was transferred to the custody of the Lewiston Police Department.

•Long Road, pistol permit investigation - Deputies conducted a background investigation of a subject who applied for a pistol permit.

•Whitehaven Road, accident with injury - Deputies responded to a report of a three-car motor vehicle accident. Three persons were treated on-scene with seemingly not life-threatening injuries.

•Baseline Road, property-damage-only accident - Deputies responded to a report of a one-car motor vehicle accident. No injuries were reported.

•Grand Island Boulevard, property-damage-only accident - Deputies responded to a report of a one-car motor vehicle accident. No injuries were reported.

•Broadway, suspicious vehicle - A complainant stated that a vehicle was parked on the side of the road for the past couple hours and did not appear to be occupied. Deputies located the vehicle and determined it to be legally parked.

•South State Parkway, motorist broke down - Deputies assisted a motorist whose vehicle had become disabled.

•I-190, motorist broke down - Deputies assisted a motorist whose vehicle had become disabled.

•Marilyn Drive, suspicious person with vehicle - A complainant stated that a suspicious vehicle was parked in front of his residence and several subjects exited the vehicle and walked toward Schwegler Road. Deputies located the subjects nearby and advised them.

Sunday, Jan. 26

•Alvin Road, larceny - Employees of an automotive business stated that, sometime during the night, someone stole tires and rims from a vehicle on the sales lot. An investigation into the matter is ongoing.

•Bedell Road, disturbance - Following an investigation of a disturbance, deputies arrested a 37-year-old man from Grand Island for criminal contempt in the first degree (a class E felony) and harassment in the second degree (a violation). The man was arraigned in the Town of Grand Is land Court and remanded to the Erie County Holding Center in lieu of $500 bail.

•Grand Island Boulevard, suspicious vehicle - A complainant stated that a suspicious vehicle was parked at a local business and a female subject was walking around the building. The vehicle left prior to the arrival of patrol. Deputies checked the area but were unable to locate the vehicle.

Monday, Jan. 27

•West River Parkway, suspicious person with vehicle - Deputies located a vehicle parked on West River Parkway during the late hours of the night. The subject was determined to be an employee for a cell phone company and was performing tests on the cell towers in the area.

•Grand Island Boulevard, property-damage-only accident - Deputies responded to a report of a two-car motor vehicle accident. No injuries were reported.

•Grand Island Boulevard, property-damage-only accident - Deputies responded to a report of a one-car motor vehicle accident. No injuries were reported.

•Grand Island Boulevard, unknown trouble - Deputies responded to a report of a 911 call and the complainant stated he was at a restaurant and witnessed another male subject slip and fall and then climb into a vehicle and leave the area. The caller then hung up. Deputies spoke with employees on location and were unable to locate the original complainant or obtain any other information about the incident.

•South State Parkway, property-damage-only accident - Deputies responded to a report of a two-car motor vehicle accident. No injuries were reported.

•East River Road, welfare check - Deputies responded to a report of a 911 hang-up call. Deputies spoke to the occupants and determined the call to be a misdial.

•South State Parkway, welfare check - A complainant stated that a female subject appeared to be on some sort of medication or drug and was getting into a vehicle to drive away. Deputies checked the area but were unable to locate the vehicle by the description given.

•Broadway, property-damage-only accident - Deputies responded to a report of a two-car motor vehicle accident. No injuries were reported.

•Bedell Road, loud music - A complainant stated that loud music was coming from a neighboring apartment in her complex. Deputies advised all parties.

•Broadway, drunk driving - Following an investigation of the above accident complaint, deputies arrested a 52-year-old man from Grand Island for driving while intoxicated and several traffic infractions. The man registered a .17 percent blood-alcohol content after submitting a sample of his breath for chemical analysis. He was issued an appearance ticket returnable to the Town of Grand Island Court and released to a sober third party.

•Bedell Road, snowmobile complaint - A complainant stated that a snowmobile was being operated in an apartment complex. Deputies checked the area but were unable to locate the snowmobile.

•Grand Island Boulevard, drunk driving - Following a traffic stop, deputies arrested a 27-year-old man from Grand Island for driving while intoxicated and several traffic infractions. The man refused to submit a sample of his breath for chemical analysis. He was issued an appearance ticket returnable to the Town of Grand Island Court and released to a sober third party.

Tuesday, Jan. 28

•Grand Island Boulevard, driving while intoxicated under influence of drugs - Following an investigation of a male passed out at the wheel of his vehicle, deputies arrested a 35-year-old man from Niagara Falls for driving while intoxicated (drugs), criminal possession of a weapon in the fourth degree (a class A misdemeanor), criminal possession of a controlled substance in the seventh degree (a class A misdemeanor), aggravated unlicensed operation in the second degree and reckless endangerment in the second degree (a class A misdemeanor) after he attempted to drive away from the scene, almost striking deputies. The man was also found to have an outstanding parole warrant for robbery. He was transported to the Erie County Holding Center pending his arraignment in the Town of Grand Island Court.

•Staley Road, deer struck - Deputies responded to a report of a one-car motor vehicle accident involving a deer. No injuries were reported.

•Baseline Road, fraud - A complainant stated that someone made fraudulent charges on his credit card sometime in recent days.

•Marlin Road, welfare check - Deputies responded to a report of a 911 hang-up call. Deputies spoke to the occupants and determined the call to be a misdial.

Wednesday, Jan. 29

•East River Road, property-damage-only accident - Deputies responded to a report of a one-car motor vehicle accident where the driver fled the scene. An investigation into the matter is ongoing.

•Grand Island Boulevard, motorist broke down - Deputies assisted a motorist whose vehicle had become disabled.

•Grand Island Boulevard, property-damage-only accident - Deputies responded to a report of a one-car motor vehicle accident. No injuries were reported.

•Bedell Road, loud music - A complainant stated loud music was coming from a nearby apartment in her complex. Deputies spoke to and advised all parties.

Thursday, Jan. 30

•East River Road, accident with injury - Deputies responded to a report of a two-car motor vehicle accident involving a school bus. Several persons were treated on-scene with seemingly not life-threatening injuries.

•Whitehaven Road, property-damage-only accident - Deputies responded to a report of a two-car motor vehicle accident. No injuries were reported.

•Williams Road, suspicious incident - A complainant stated that someone was going through his garbage. Deputies located the subject and advised him.

•Revere Road, pistol permit investigation - Deputies conducted a background investigation of a subject who applied for a pistol permit.

•Whitehaven Road, pistol permit investigation - Deputies conducted a background investigation of a subject who applied for a pistol permit.

•Stony Point Road, deer struck - Deputies responded to a report of a one-car motor vehicle accident involving a deer. No injuries were reported.

Friday, Jan. 31

•Grand Island Boulevard, property-damage-only accident - Deputies responded to a report of a two-car motor vehicle accident. No injuries were reported.

•Red Jacket Road, motorist broke down - Deputies assisted a motorist whose vehicle had become disabled.

•Long Road, suspicious incident - A complainant stated that there were footprints in the snow leading up to her window. Deputies checked and determined the prints to be made by an animal.

•Buckhorn State Park, all-terrain vehicle complaint - A complainant stated that ATVs were racing up and down the snowmobile trails in Buckhorn State Park. Deputies checked the area but were unable to locate the ATVs.
