Niagara Falls Memorial Medical Center and The Heart Center of Niagara will celebrate National Go Red for Women Day on Friday.

Information about the risk factors for heart disease, disease signs and symptoms, and healthy living information (including smoking cessation tips), will be offered from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. in front of the medical center cafeteria. From noon to 1 p.m. a physician from Memorial's osteopathic family practice residency program will present cardiac wellness information in the medical center auditorium.

The American Heart Association states heart disease is the No. 1 killer of women in the U.S., killing more women than all forms of cancer combined.

National Institutes of Health statistics show one in four women dies from heart disease, with coronary heart disease the most common type of heart disease afflicting women as well as men.

Go Red for Women promotes awareness of the issue of women and heart disease and encourages action to save more lives.

For information about Friday's event, call 716-278-4300 and select option No. 1.
