Memorial dietitians earn designation as certified diabetes educators

Two members of Niagara Falls Memorial Medical Center's nutrition services team have earned designation as certified diabetes educators from the National Certification Board for Diabetes Educators.

Mary Degnan, M.S., R.D., C.D.N., C.D.E., is the medical center's director of nutrition services. She holds master's and bachelor's degrees in dietetics and nutrition from D'Youville College.

Jessica Masterson, R.D., C.D.N., C.D.E., is a clinical dietitian and dietary supervisor at Memorial. She earned her bachelor's degree in dietetics from Buffalo State College, where she was an adjunct professor, and is a graduate of Johnson & Wales University and Hudson Valley Community College.

A certified diabetes educator is a health professional who understands and demonstrates comprehensive knowledge in pre-diabetes, diabetes prevention and diabetes management, and works directly with those impacted by the disease to achieve individualized behavioral and treatment goals that optimize health outcomes.
