Gov. Andrew Cuomo offered the following remarks Monday:

"Dear friend,

"Today we honor and celebrate the life of Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. This day is dedicated to recognizing the man who challenged our nation to overcome hatred and injustice, and we take this time to reflect on our shared humanity.

"Dr. King taught us that the fight for justice and equality is never over, and he set an example for all to follow as we continue that fight. His commitment to ending racism, poverty and violence inspires us as we strive here in New York to build a society of equality, fairness and justice for all.

"I join with all New Yorkers in remembering the life of this great leader, not only today, but every day."
