Skip Mazenauer, publisher and CEO of Niagara Frontier Publications, which prints the Lewiston-Porter Sentinel, Niagara-Wheatfield Tribune, Island Dispatch and Grand Island PennySaver, has been named a director at large for the New York Press Association board of directors. Mazenauer's term runs from 2013-15.

Mazenauer has served in the officerships of the Grand Island Rotary and Chamber of Commerce. He has been a director of the New York State Builders Association and president of the Niagara County Builders Association. He was instrumental in the formation of the Lower River Region Chamber of Commerce where he served as chairman for two terms.

Currently, Mazenauer serves on the boards of Old Fort Niagara, the Aquarium of Niagara, Artpark & Company and the Historic Lewiston Jazz Festival committee.

NFP prints four weekly newspapers and special magazines, as well as www.wnypapers.com.

The New York Press Association was founded Sept. 8, 1853, to help publishers of small newspapers meet the needs of their communities more effectively by providing better information for their readers. The 32 publishers and editors from Western and Central New York who founded NYPA hoped that through joint discussion they could effectively set standards of commercial practice and financial management that would help their small newspapers prosper. They hoped that the fellowship engendered by personal acquaintance would minimize the misunderstandings that thrive in its absence.

Today, independently owned publications across the state continue to pass rich community newspaper traditions from one generation to the next, ensuring community newspapers remain vibrant, thriving and historically ever-changing.

NYPA's database of newspapers includes 727 weekly community newspapers, 58 daily newspapers and 147 culturally specific newspapers. Weekly newspaper circulation is 11.6 million; daily circulation is 5.6 million, and culturally specific newspaper circulation is 4.2 million.

The mission of the New York Press Association shall be to promote and encourage higher standards of journalism; to aid and advance the study and teaching of journalism; to encourage and promote the better understanding between the public and the press; to support and defend the First Amendment, including the free press, realizing that only as long as the press is successful will the other rights, privileges and freedoms of New York's citizens be preserved, and to pursue such goals through its legislative efforts, educational services and promotional initiatives.
