Assemblyman John Ceretto is working with the Lewiston No. 2 Volunteer Fire Co. to promote a "Veterans Information Day" on Veterans Day weekend. The event will take place at the Lewiston firehall from noon until 4 p.m. Nov. 10. The purpose of the event is to help veterans learn about the benefits for which they are eligible and different programs of which they may not be aware.

"We owe a debt of eternal gratitude to our veterans. There are a lot of benefits available to veterans that are under-utilized because veterans simply don't know about them," Ceretto said. "This event will link veterans with active service members who know all the benefits available and can help them find benefits they didn't know existed. We owe it to our veterans to make sure they are taken care of and as a thank you for their sacrifice to our country. It is the least we can do on Veterans Day weekend."

A representative from every branch of the Armed Forces will be in attendance. Veterans will be matched with a representative based on the branch of the military in which they served. The representatives will enter the veteran's information into a database that tells them what benefits they qualify for. In many cases, veterans discover benefits that they did not know existed.

"Our firehouse shares a common bond with military veterans who have sacrificed so much on behalf of our country. We want to make sure that those veterans are well taken care of and know how much we appreciate their service. I thank Assemblyman Ceretto for promoting this event and sharing my concern for our nation's veterans," said Rodney Michalak, president of Lewiston No. 2.

Anyone with questions about the event can call Ceretto's office at 716-282-6062.
