At 2 a.m. this coming Sunday, Nov. 3, we all will set our clocks back one hour in accordance with Daylight Saving Time. We often think of Daylight Saving Time as a time we either get an extra hour of sleep or we lose one, but when it comes to life safety we hope to encourage you to use this time for more than setting your clocks.

The National Fire Protection Association recommends changing the batteries in your home smoke detectors every six months when you change your clocks. This will ensure they are always ready when you need them. So please, when you change the clocks this weekend take a few minutes to change the batteries in your home smoke detectors. Your life, and the lives of your loved ones may depend on it.
