YMCA collects cans for a cause: Food Bank of WNYby jmaloni
As part of the YMCA's commitment to the community, the Y has teamed up once again with the Food Bank of Western New York and WGRZ-TV Channel 2 to help give back to those in need right here in Western New York. All YMCA Buffalo Niagara Branches and YMCA Buffalo Niagara's association office are currently taking donations of non-perishable items for the Food Bank.
Last year, organizers were able to collect more than 3,000 pounds of food for area families. This year, they would like to challenge Western New Yorkers to help them reach 4,000 pounds. Donations will be accepted until Nov. 27. Participants in the YMCA Turkey Trot are encouraged to bring cans with them to packet pick-up at the Delaware YMCA from Nov. 25-27.
"The Food Bank of WNY is excited to be partnering, once again, with the YMCA's annual Turkey Trot," said Marylou Borowiak, president and CEO of the Food Bank of WNY. "Last year's participants generously donated non-perishables, which were distributed throughout the holiday season to those who rely on us. This year, the numbers of those seeking assistance from us have grown to 34,030 households. The Food Bank of WNY is truly grateful to be a part of this wonderful event."
