The Town of Lewiston and Village of Lewiston have announced plans are in place to return the popular Lewiston Family Ice Rink to Academy Park in December.

After agreeing to a maintenance and operation plan, village and town officials said they are excited to start the long process of constructing the rink and warming house in preparation for the two months of free skating.

Work will begin immediately to create a level surface needed for the ice rink operation and safety, as well as the initial construction of the warming tent and other amenities.

Some of the programs slated to return include the "Skate with Santa Christmas Party," and the annual "Kids New Year's Eve Bash and Balloon Drop." Both the town and the village recreation advisory committees will look to add more events for families to enjoy this winter season.

The ice rink will once again seek out community partnerships to help keep its programs free to the public. Organizers will once again use monies from the Niagara River Greenway fund and New York Power Authority relicensing agreement.

The Lewiston Family Ice Rink staff is calling on friends and neighbors in the community to help support its operation. Sponsorship forms are available at www.LewPortSports.com and can be obtained at Lewiston Town Hall, 1375 Ridge Road, or the Red Brick Municipal Building, 145 N. Fourth St.

The Lewiston Family Ice Rink offers many different levels of involvement, and donations are accepted and appreciated. For more information, call Mike Dashineau at 716-754-8213, ext. 254, or email [email protected].
