Alzheimer's Association needs volunteers

Much of the outreach work performed by the Alzheimer's Association Western New York Chapter would not be possible without the dedication and commitment of volunteers.

The program team relies on compassionate volunteers to perform a number of vital services across the eight-county territory of Allegany, Cattaraugus, Chautauqua, Erie, Genesee, Niagara, Orleans and Wyoming counties.

In most cases, volunteers do not need specific experience or background. Those who've earned a BSW or MSW are always welcome to assist with care consultations, but anyone willing to share their time, compassion and dedication is also encouraged to help. For instance, those with an interest in music or a background in playing an instrument would be welcomed to help with music therapy programs, and retired teachers or those comfortable speaking to groups are encouraged to consider becoming a volunteer presenter. The team will provide extensive training for volunteers who are willing to commit their time to assist in these areas: early stage programs and respite services to work with those with a dementia diagnosis, education presentations, health fair representatives and care consultations.

For more information, call 1-800-272-3900 and ask to speak with a program staff member.
