Children ages 7-12 are invited to celebrate Veterans Day at the History Center of Niagara County on Monday, Nov. 11, from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. The program will commemorate the 50th anniversary of President John F. Kennedy's assassination by allowing children to experience what American life was like 50 years ago.

Activities will include playing games that were popular in the 1960s, making a pop-art picture; learning about the space race, as well as constructing a simple rocket; listening to the songs and doing the dances (the Twist, the Limbo); and eating foods that were introduced in the early 1960s. The assassination will be discussed at the end of the program, but no graphic images will be shown.

The cost of the program is $10 per child. Reservations are required. Parents are encouraged to leave their children for the duration of the program. Call or email the History Center at 716-434-7433 or [email protected] for reservations and more information.

The History Center, part of the Niagara County Historical Society, is located at 215 Niagara St., Lockport.
