The third annual "Billiards for Books" benefit for the Youngstown Public Library will be held Saturday, Oct. 19, at Brennan's Irish Pub, 418 Main St., in Youngstown. The pool tournament-fundraiser starts at 4 p.m.

"This is a great opportunity for people to show their support for the library and have a good time," said Angelo Sarkees, a Lewiston resident and commissioner of the pool tournament.

Two-person teams - women, men or coed - will be featured and competition will be single elimination eight ball. Prizes include gift cards and donated items.

Tom Patrick of the Friends of the Youngstown Free Library is helping organize the event. Donation for the pool teams is $25 and $10 for patrons. Wristbands will be provided, as will refreshments.

"Support for the event grows every year," Sarkees said. "We have raised more than $1,200 with the pool tournament and private donors, especially Youngstown merchants. The board members and library staff have given great support, along with the owners and staff at Brennan's."

Proceeds from the event will go toward book purchases and other library needs.

"The library is a wonderful asset in our community and I want to thank all involved in making Billiards for Books a success," Sarkees said.
