The 2013 Niagara County Community College Distinguished Alumni Award will be presented to Dr. Paul Churder '75 and Peter Robinson '91.

The awards will be presented to Churder and Robinson at the 23rd annual NCCC Scholarship Gala on Saturday, Oct. 19, at the Niagara Falls Culinary Institute. Tickets for the event are $125 per person and are available by contacting the NCCC Foundation office at 716-614-5910 or online at www.niagaracc.suny.edu/foundation.

Churder was known for his success in both academics and athletics as a student at NCCC. He was an All-America honors recipient, was awarded the President's Cup in 1975, and recently he was inducted into the NCCC Sports Hall of Fame.

After graduating from NCCC, Churder went on to earn a bachelor's degree from the University of New York at Buffalo and a doctoral degree from SUNY at Buffalo School of Dental Medicine. He has been a member of the dentistry community for more than 30 years.

Churder's support to NCCC is exceptional. He has contributed to the institution through many avenues, including advising academic programs, chairing the NCCC Foundation Board, and regularly contributing to fund-raising initiatives and events at the college. He is also a founding coordinator of the Roy E. Sommer Memorial Golf Tournament, which raises funds for NCCC athletic scholarships.

Peter Robinson graduated from NCCC in 1991 and went on to earn a bachelor's degree from SUNY at Buffalo. He currently serves as a state court officer and instructor for the New York State Department of Criminal Justice Services in general topics, police firearms, CPR and first aid.

Robinson's desire to serve the community overflows from his professional life into his personal ambitions. He is the founder and organizer of the Winter Wonderland Project, member and community co-chair for the United Way Fund Drive, commissioner and president of the City of Lockport Department Fire Board, member of the Niagara County Youth Board of Commissioners, and is founder and spokesperson of the Peanut Butter and Jelly Drive. Robinson continues to give back to NCCC by singing at college and alumni events and previously serving on the NCCC Alumni Board.
